How to get there

By plane

Kirkenes airport (Høybuktmoen) is located 15 km from Kirkenes center (at E6). There is an airport express bus connected to the flights from/to Oslo, travel time about 30 minutes. 

Daily flight connections from/to Oslo (2 hours and 5 min) and connections to Tromsø, Vadsø, Vardø, Båtsfjord, Berlevåg, Mehamn, Honningsvåg, Alta, Sørkjosen.

By boat

The famous Coastal Steamer "Hurtigruten" arrives daily in Kirkenes. The boat leaves Bergen daily at 20:00 in summer, 22:30 in winter. The journey from Bergen to Kirkenes takes 6 days. The largest ports of call are: Ålesund, Trondheim, Bodø and Tromsø. In the northern county Finnmark the boat stops in Hammerfest, Havøysund, Honningsvåg, Kjøllefjord, Mehamn, Berlevåg, Båtsfjord, Vardø and Vadsø. Daily arrival in Kirkenes at 9:00, departure 12:30.

By bus

Daily bus connection between Murmansk/Russia and Kirkenes.

Daily bus connection Oulu/Finland - Karasjok.
Karasjok-Kirkenes just at following day Monday-Friday. 

By car

Kirkenes is located at the end of European way No 6. Distances: to Tromsø 977 km, to Alta 572 km, to Oslo ca. 2480 km. You can choose the way through Sweden as well. 
Kiruna-Kirkenes 769 km.
Or you choose the way through Finnland, via Rovaniemi. Rovaniemi-Kirkenes 473 km. Driving way no. 971 you can cross the Finish-Norwegian border in Näätämö, 50 km away from Kirkenes. The way is in very good condition.

Local transport: city bus, taxi, car rental

There are city buses connecting Kirkenes, Hesseng, Sandnes, Bjørnevatn, Elvenes and Jakobsnes.

Kirkenes Taxicentral is located in the center at Presteveien 1.

Car rental is available from Avis, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt.
